eResearch upgrade

eResearch has recently undergone some upgrading work, which allows for more functions to be added to the service. This includes the ability to generate wordle graphics, like the one above, which has been generated from a full-text search that included all of the eResearch records and papers from 2012 to date.

Another exciting addition is the Altmetric donut app, which indicates if a paper has been tweeted about, saved to Mendeley etc. and can help academics to see what impact their work is having. An example of this working in eResearch is here

eResearch statistics for February 2014

Total number of items listed in eResearch = 2858

Total number of visitors to eResearch = 2929

Last month Research Support published a blog post that was about the open access papers that were downloaded from eResearch in January 2014. This post is taking a different approach and the first list is that of the eResearch listings that were most accessed. The majority of the papers included here do not have open access papers attached because at Queen Margaret University, we have taken the view that all of our researchers' publications should be listed in our eResearch repository, rather than just the ones that we have open access papers for. In fact, only papers 8 and 9 listed are OA. A very quick search was run in Google Scholar to see how many citations each of the papers listed had generated. This number is next to each paper in red. The second list, as was published last month, is the top ten downloaded open access papers.
