ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) -

ORCID provides researchers with a unique persistent digital identifier, allowing disambiguation from other authors with the same or similar names. Individual researchers can sign up to ORCID for free to receive their ORCID identifier immediately. My one looks like this:


Currently researchers can complete a profile and list or match themselves with their papers via the CrossRef system. It is possible to link the ORCID identifier with other identifiers including those generated by SCOPUS, ResearcherID and LinkedIn. The service is currently being developed so that affiliations, grants and patents will soon be able to have ORCID identifiers assigned to them as well.
